2025 Winter Sports Reflection

By: Mikayla Ho, Staff Writer

The winter sports season is nearing its end in mid-February and many student athletes bonded with each other through teamwork and cooperation. Throughout this season, there were many unforgettable moments that allowed students to connect with each other, whether it was through victory or loss.

Maya Dolmage-Heath (9) is a midfielder on the girls varsity soccer team. Reflecting on one of her memorable moments this season, she explained beating SSF, a very physical team in a higher division. “Since this team was very physical when we got fouled, sometimes dangerously, our teammates would be supportive and stand up for us, especially our captain Reece who would go to the ref to speak up for our team,” says Dolmage-Heath.

Joshua Huei (11), one of the captains and a fullback for the boys varsity soccer team shared how good he felt scoring a goal even though it was preseason. “As a defender I normally don’t get many chances in front of goal so when I put it away and was able to celebrate with my friends it was unreal.”

Another freshman, Constance Liang is a point-guard for the JV girls basketball team. She described the pressures of being a freshman on the team and not knowing what to expect. “My proudest moment so far is winning most of our games with the JV team,” says Liang. By bonding with her teammates during practice, she was able to be more confident on the court.

Tyler Ngo (12), captain and point guard of the boys varsity basketball team, revealed having a difficult game against SSF and overcoming it. “With the help and support from my teammates it made it easier to push through and at the end of the day just knowing I got to keep my head up and have a short term memory so it doesn’t affect me next game really helps me overcome these obstacles,” Ngo shares.

The winter sports season was definitely full of triumphs and defeats, but students were able to have a memorable experience with the support from teammates and sportsmanship. Connecting with the members of your team is crucial to having a successful game.
Girls soccer and basketball season will end in around a month. Boys soccer and basketball will both end on February 14, with boys basketball having an away quad game at Aragon. The Thunderbolt is rooting all the winter sports to have a successful rest of the season!
