An Attitude of Gratitude

Amanda O’Dea, Editor-in-Chief

The world is a fast-moving place. Friends, teachers, assignments, tests, opportunities, activities—they all come and go. Some fly by fast. Others float by slow. But either way, seldom do we sit back and reflect on it all. Seldom are we present and aware of the fortune we possess.

This holiday season let’s take the time to reflect. Let’s take time to sit back, relax, and reflect on everything our lives have handed us. You can even eat some turkey while you do it.

If we don’t take the time to slow down and think about the world around us, we’ll fail to truly enjoy what life has to offer. When you let it all blaze by, you fail to notice the little things.

The hard part is: it’s easier to just focus on what’s ahead. Whether it be a big AP Chem test, an APUSH project, a soccer game, or a piano recital, it’s easy to keep your head forward, only focusing on getting through the next upcoming weeks. But the thing is, you’ve got to take time to look back as well. You need to look back, at the good and the bad and the in-between. You need to be grateful for the opportunities you’ve been given and give yourself credit for overcoming the obstacles. Only this way can you feel calm and centered. And this calmness will motivate you to do even more amazing things.

As you go through these next few weeks leading up to finals, try to stay present. It’s going to seem like a lot–just one project after another. But try to enjoy it. As a Senior, I’ve realized how fast it goes by. Take your time, and enjoy it. And as you do, have an attitude of gratitude. Be thankful for what you have. Be appreciative of the people around you. Life can feel pretty darn difficult at times, but with an attitude of gratitude, maybe it can be just a little better.
