Peppermint; the best or a bust?

I hate to be the Grinch, but I think we need to discuss an important holiday topic, peppermint flavored foods. Whether you love or hate peppermint foods, it  has its pros and cons, and today, I’m here to discuss the cons .

Peppermint bark is one of the most delicious holiday foods available, and while I’m not denying that its flavor is wonderful, I do think peppermint bark has its downsides.  One of the main issues with peppermint bark is that it sometimes can be too crunchy, and can hurt to bite down on because it has sharp peppermint pieces on top of it. If the companies producing peppermint bark added the peppermint flavoring to the chocolate rather than adding it to the top, I would definitely be willing to hop on board.

One of the many things I find hard to grasp is the fact that people actually drink peppermint coffee and enjoy it. Sometimes I feel like peppermint coffee drinks are overrated, and for no good reason. They’re often too sweet and unpleasant to drink. The flavor tastes artificial, and doesn’t really fit with the dark taste of coffee.

Candy canes have to be one of my least favorite holiday candies. Although it is a common favorite for the holiday season, I think that they are too overhyped. When you open the package they all somehow manage to crumble into pieces immediately after you open them.  If you’re like me, you’ve often run into the problem of sticky and explosive candy canes as well.

Before you  claim that I’m a bad person for slandering peppermint, I actually enjoy peppermint food, I really do. I just believe that there are some things that could be changed to  improve upon the overall taste of peppermint flavored food. I’m still going to enjoy peppermint mochas from Starbucks or peppermint bark from local stores, despite the flaws it may have.
