With winter break around the corner and holiday spirit in the air, there are still several activities that you can partake in during this time of uncertainty and isolation. Here are some ideas to make the last few weeks of 2020 a safe and meaningful time with family and friends!
In the past couple of months, Zoom has been a lifesaver for both schools and programs alike, so why not use Zoom to have some fun this holiday season? We’re well aware that hanging out in big groups isn’t an option, but using Zoom calls gives us the option to host virtual parties—and with as many people as you’d like! You can host Zoom calls to see who can make the ugliest sweater, play holiday trivia, and paint festive pictures all the while catching up with friends.
We all know the holidays aren’t only known for its festive music but also its amazing movies that put people in the holiday spirit. Holiday classics like Elf, A Christmas Carol, Home Alone, Polar Express, The Grinch, The Santa Clause, and Arthur’s Christmas are all great examples of movies that can be watched in front of a fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa and a nice comfy fort that can be designed in any way imaginative with cute decorations like pillows and candles. Not only can these be done with your family but you can also play a movie live on Zoom with anyone sharing their screen. Watching the movie together through screen sharing is a great experience making it feel like they are actually with you.
Another classic way to spend time with your family this holiday season is by making Holiday-themed items. Ever since the beginning of the pandemic, people have started to get more creative and have started enjoying many hobbies like baking and arts & crafts. If you have a competitive side during the holidays, there are a few arts and crafts games that are easy and can be done at home with family and close friends. Gingerbread house decorating with your siblings by dividing your family up to see who can make the best looking house, making christmas cookies, crafting snowflakes with just a pair of scissors and paper, or even painting holiday settings can put you and your family in the holiday spirit.
Another common tradition is to look at houses that got into the spirit of the holidays by decorating their houses. It is an easy thing to do during the pandemic from the comfort of your own personal vehicle or simply by taking a walk around your neighborhood.
Although this year hasn’t gone the way we thought it would, there are still many things we can do to make it as fun as possible during these trying times. Technology has given us the opportunity to make contact with friends we are not able to see right now and with making contact with friends comes enjoyable events.
