School social events are the backbone of school pride, student body, and reputation. Without sports games, club meetings, etc., how could we ever truly refer to our school as a “ship full of vikings”. Events such as sports games gather crowds full of supportive parents and students from all over the district. What better way is there to show school spirit, than cheering for your home team.

Here at Mills, football coach Rick has a widely known saying recognized by football players. He states “a team is a collection of individuals that share a common goal”. These goals bring together student athletes to strive for something bigger than themselves. Through this privilege, students may bond and find new relationships among their fellow teammates. Thankfully, our school has shown a great display of a family developed from sports teams such as football, basketball, and more. It can be agreed that sports teams/programs unite a large population of students.

If sports may not suit your interest then clubs presenting new opportunities for new experiences might catch your attention. For every activity, skill, and background, there is more than likely a club that will take you in to further develop your interests. For example, a club such as boba bots can assist students in engineering skills while connecting to other people with common interests. Clubs also may provide more information on your ethnic background, or possibly even other cultures that might interest you. This is why many prestigious colleges tend to take interest in students that display their wide interests through clubs. Highly praised clubs that involve community service can also bring more value in applications and resumes. Giving back to your community increases chances of being admitted into your dream school or future career paths. It shows that you are not only interested in yourself but also the benefit and well-being of others. This also may be a great way of networking for your own personal or professional use. Utilizing these connections would be extremely beneficial when starting in the real world on your own.

Lastly, school dances are great for fundraising, life-skills, and school culture. Here students are encouraged to find people that suit their personality to make new memories that will be shared in the future. Finding a date may also benefit students in realizing what they might prefer in a romantic relationship. Through these experiences, students may grow into becoming more confident in themselves. Although, at the end of the day, events such as formal, prom, and homecoming give more opportunities for schools to become a more tight-knit community.

To conclude these examples, school social events are needed in shaping teens and young adults. These life skills taught through school events are what builds character for future generations of our society. High school should continue to provide these experiences while student’s brains are constantly developing and changing. A school community is a great way to decide what kind of person you want to be. Therefore all students should cherish each and every last one of their high school years.
